Getting Started
We think working with Razuna is straight forward and does not need much explanation. But we understand that some people might need a full documentation and while we are are hard at work with bringing you more user guides on how to work with Razuna we invite you to watch the below video tour that shows you the basics about Razuna.

I would post this in the forum but I get a 404 message. There is no forum.
I am finding setting up Razuna anything but simple and straight forward. I've followed the instructions on both Wondows and Linux and got to the end and have no result - ie. Razuna doesn't. After more struggling I got a little firther on Linux but am now getting this error: Error while creating file /razunadb [90062-77] from OPEN BD.
Here's the fuller contest of the error

Yes, the forum is not working.
I manage to create a web site but as soon as I log in I receive this strange Internet Explorer error:
Internet Explorer cannot open the intenet site http://10.102.41.123:8080/razuna/admin/index.cfm
Operation aborted
Any ideas?

Hi all
I am very sorry to reply only now, but this Wiki has been flooded with Spam Comments and thus I did not see these two. Apologies.
@Forum
We are hard at work for the Forum. The resent Razuna Versions got lot of attentions, which is good, but at the same time, certain things, like the Forum, moved a bit in the back. We should be up and running in 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, we are more then happy to resolve any issues here.
@Problem with installation
I am sorry to hear that Razuna is not working for you. I am guessing it has to do with permission. When you log on to Razuna the first time, it tries to create a database on "/", meaning on your root level. If you don't have permissions then this will most likely fail. You can change the location of the embedded database within the configuration file. Open up the file "bluedragon.xml" in the /WEB-INF/bluedragon folder and change the line;
The part that is important here is "file:/razunadb/razuna" change this to a location where is fits you best, like "file:/home/magnus/razuna_tomcat_1_1_1/razunadb/razuna/"
We are working on changing this in a future version.
Hope this helps.

Hi. I am looking for a documentation how to use razuna from the perspective of a user - not an computer engineer.
Do you have a handbook - some manual to use. Something which comes with every software???
Just a user!!

Nitai Aventaggiato
I understand you.
Did you download and tried Razuna? Do you find it hard to use? We have tried to develop the system in this regard that it should be intuitive at the first glance.
Of course, this does not justifying that there are no end-user manuals available. We are at work publishing some articles about that soon. In the meantime, I suggest looking at the available video material and/or asking questions here. Our forum is coming real soon.
We know the need for the end user and working at it. We have been "a little overrun" by the numbers of people downloading Razuna and how well it has been taken up (not complaining here)

Hi Nitai, I download and install Razuna (I think using the embedded DB engine because i don't use Oracle Script), everything is running good except the most important features (for my intentions), i can't use the add asset feature because when i try to execute the save button the page stay and a loop trying to finish the task...never end. Could you give me a tips about that?.
Thanks in advance

Hi Andres
Sounds like that any of the helper tools are not installed or the path to it are not correct. Let me know on what platform you are working on. Also, make sure you don't have any spaces in the execution path to ImageMagick, FFMpef and Exiftool. This is a small limitation of Razuna at the moment.
If you are sure that the path to the executables is set correctly then try to issue the commands in the shell, or on Windows in the dos window. Does the application execute without problem?
Kind Regards,
Nitai

Hi there,
I've managed to install Razuna on XP - all good. Nice setup and clear instructions - the only hassle I had was making sure my paths were correct for Java.
Now I am wondering how to import all my digital assets from my file server - into the database / app.
Is there a way or do you have to add them one by one?
I can't find any help on the matter - there seems to be some blurb on t'internet saying you can import into razuna but I can't find instructions or anything within the interface that would allow you to. The getting started video seems to only cover adding assets one by one.
Basically with a 300 Gb file space filled with pdf's and jpegs - I can't be adding them one at a time as it will be too labour intensive.
Is this possible?
Even if the software can't fulfil my criteria for this, I'd just like to say it looks like a great product, many thanks.

Hello Teresa
I am happy to read that Razuna has been working for you so far. I know that the Java installation and path setup is a bit of a hassle in Windows, but see that you got it running.
Of course, Razuna is able to import many assets in one go. We ourselves would go crazy if that would not work
That said, simply log on to your DAM (not the administration) navigate to a folder. The click on "Add file(s)". In the window click on "Add from server" and the server file browser will open. If you move a folder with assets into the Razuna host folder before you will see the folder with your assets in this view. Navigate to the folder and choose the files you want to import. I would test it with a couple of files first, before working with thousands files. Also note, that importing can take some time and lock up your CPU for some time.
You can also import assets from an eMail account (attachments will be imported) or from a FTP server.
In case you haven't noticed it, you can also automate the process of importing. Just click on the "Administration" link in the upper right corner and in the window click on the tab "Scheduled Uploads". Setup a new "Scheduled Upload" and choose the method for importing (server, email and ftp) and in what intervals (time, days, recurring, etc.).
I hope this helps. I might do another video on how to import many assets soon.
Please feel free to continue asking.
Kind Regards,
Nitai

Thanks for your answer Nitai,
I am using firefox - I log in, as admin user - click on explorer - go to a folder I want to populate, click Add Files - and choose the "add from server" tab.
I then see nothing very much, i.e. I can't browse on the server coz there is no way to get there. It says "folders on server" but actually no folders show, and then a link to go back. ( which doesnt work)
Do I need to add the path to the server somewhere?
I cant see how to add a screenshot to show you sorry.
I've tried with IE6 and dont even get the menus to upload or see folders, nothing...
can you advise please?
regards, Teresa

Ok, when you click on "Add from server" you should see on the right side at least the folder "incoming". Is that so?
How this works is that you actually copy a folder with your assets to the server. Meaning copy the folder into your "razuna/demo" host folder (if you are working with the host "demo" that is).
Then you should be able to see this folder and the content.
Yes, we have problems with IE 6. I have a open ticket for that already and are working on it.
Kind Regards,
Nitai
PS: Here are some screenshot how it should look like:

I was just about to create a video showing how to add many assets in one go and saw that we have a bug there. Luckily this bug was identified and fixed very fast.
We have moved a couple of issues to the next release, meaning we will issue a Razuna 1.1.2 soon. As always I encourage everyone to visit our public Bug & Feature tracker over at http://issues.sixsigns.com. There you will see all feature request and bug reports. Of course, if you find something please report it. Thank you.

Nitai

Hi Nitai,
I logged in as admin and created a user in Digital Asset management and provided all the information requried. But I am not able to login as the user which I have created. Is there anything I have to do after creating the User? I can login by Admin only. Can please explain the process of crating the user.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi there
So you created a user during first time setup and now you can only login with the admin account?
Do you see the user in the list of users within the administration (see screenshot)?
If not, can you please explain in a more detail fashion (step by step) what exactly you have been doing? Browser, Razuna version, Server version, etc. Thank you.
Can you create a new user and login with that user?
Kind Regards,
Nitai

Hi there,
no it's not got anything to do with the users - I created a new user on set up and called it admin ( even though its me) - sorry for the confusion.
So, I log in as admin / password and log in fine. This is logging into the DAM part.
I am using firefox 2.0.1.1
My workstation is XP, which is running the application too. So server XP too.
Once I have logged in, I can see to the left I have tabs with "explorer", "favourites", "basket" - with a search area above that.
To the right I have some system information.
When I click on a folder, the centre part changes to whatever is in that folder, e.g. I created a folder called "assetbase" and imported 2 items into it.
So I click on Assetbase, and I can then see the items in the centre of the page.
When I click on "add asset " via the button at the bottom of that centre page - it takes me to a pop up that lets me import a single item from my computer. That works.
If I click on the "add from server" tab next to "add asset" - all I see is a message telling me to click on the folder icon- but there is not a folder icon! Ther is also a link that says "back". When I click on that link, it doesnt work. Nothing happens.
I have not tested the FTP and email methods yet, as the file server is the method I am going to be using if i can get it to work.
Hope this is clearer.
Thanks, T

No! I do not see anything on the right hand side...its empty!
I am not quite clear what you are saying..I have a 300Gb share on a file server that I would like to point razuna to, and choose multiple files from.
Maybe I am getting the terminology wrong...the "add from server" does that mean add from razuna web werver and not my own file server on the network?
Teresa

Nitai Aventaggiato
Yes, "Add from server" means you should add assets from the server (Razuna). In your case you can also just map the network drive as a local one right into the "Razuna/demo" folder and then you should be able to browse the network drive.
Razuna is such, that all assets have to be imported into the system in order to make full use of it. By importing into the system it "scans" the asset for keywords and content (documents), XMP/IPTC/other metadata and creates thumbnails (images) and creates previews and more (videos).
As I announced earlier we are working on a bug fix version (1.1.2) that fixes issues with multiple file imports and imports of .zip files. We have fixed those pressing issues today and the files are available. If you or anybody want them I can provide them, but will have to write a short introduction where to put them.
I think this will also fix the issue you are seeing, that you don't see any folder in "Add to server" window. I am sorry if this caused any annoyances for you, or in that matter for anybody else.
Kind Regards,
Nitai

Thanks for your answer Nitai, I would like the updated files if possible please.
I guess I am still a bit unsure of how the whole system works.
I get how mapping the network drive to the local folder enables me to take files off my network file server and add them to the razuna server but...
how do I batch import them?
i.e. point the "add files" to the networked file server and say get *.jpg - and it will import all jpegs...
or is that not how it works?
web interface --
> import a bunch of jpegs from networked file server with jpegs on -----> those jpegs are imported into the razuna local folder to bring digital assets into so they can be "scanned"sorry for all the questions but I would love to use this system if possible.

LOL - I didnt mean to strike through that sentence, my attempt as showing you a workflow obviously created some code instead!

Hi Teresa
No problems in asking question. The community is what makes any open source system great. As long as I can help (and you understanding me) it all makes sense
The system works in a way like a file server. Meaning you can add any asset you want and it creates thumbnails and stores the original image (for images), or creates a frame thumbnail, a preview moview and stores the original movies (for movies) or then simply stores documents and full indexes them.
I know there are some systems that you can point a path to and the system wi index the given path and make the assets "available" within the system. This is (currently) not how Razuna works. With Razuna you will have to add each asset to the system, it will "scan" it and move it to the asset folder of Razuna.
Now regarding your problem, I just came across some Windows problems and someone told me that a web application can not see a mapped drive. This is due to some security issues. Thus I recommend the following.
Can you copy one folder from your network drive to the "razuna/demo" folder and see if the system sees your folder? You should then be able to select the folder and choose which assets you want to import. If you see the folder then we know that it is a network drive issue with windows.
Kind Regards,
Nitai

Hey there Nitai,
I'll try what you suggested.
This:
"I know there are some systems that you can point a path to and the system wi index the given path and make the assets "available" within the system. This is (currently) not how Razuna works. With Razuna you will have to add each asset to the system, it will "scan" it and move it to the asset folder of Razuna."
is actually what I was trying to ask and wondering if I could get it to work. So thanks for clarifying that for me.
Can you tell me the relation between:
the Path to Assets: "C:\razuna\tomcat\webapps\razuna\assets" - which is set from within the admin of razuna
and the transfer folders "localhost:8080/razuna/demo/dam/incoming" - as seen via the admin of razuna
and the folders that you create yourself please?
thanks, Teresa

Hi Nitai,
I have one questions:
1. How can I add custom "mata_data" fields to my assets/existing assets.
2. Is it possible to customize GUI part of razuna?
Thank you for your time.
Oct 11, 2008
Nitai Aventaggiato
Hi there
1:
Do you mean adding extra "meta-data" fields for images or in general? Meta-Data that will be stored in the database alone?
In any case, that is something that we have not done (yet) in Razuna, but is a good feature request. I will add it to our public tracker at http://issues.sixsigns.com. If you tell me exactly what you are looking for this will help forming this feature. I can't promise you that you will see it within a week, but "soon".
2:
What are you looking for? Customization is a broad term.
Kind Regards,
Nitai

Hi Nitai,
Thanks for your replay.
1. We have some requirement to add extranal "meta-data" fields to my video assets like frame rate, resolution, video bitrate, audio bitrate, audio frequency etc..
2. does Razuna supports "Work Flow "?
Oct 13, 2008
Nitai Aventaggiato
Hi
1.
I see. These are very common fields and I think others will benefit from them as well. If you tell me all the fields that you need I can include them now as standard fields for videos. Developing a custom field framework right now will take a bit longer and won't make it into the next version. With standard fields I will be able to include them in the next release which will be in a couple of days.
2.
No right now. Let me know what you are looking for. Razuna comes from another professional DAM system I have developed and we feature Work flow there. I still got hooks in place and thus I could "activate" them.
Kind Regards,
Nitai
